Reading Skills
In Grade 6, students develop reading comprehension skills through short and familiar texts such as emails, notices, descriptions, or personal writings. They learn to read for the main idea, locate specific details, and begin practicing identifying opinions or making inferences from texts. This is the first step toward building analytical reading skills, laying the foundation for the reading tasks in the Checkpoint exam.
Writing Skills
The Grade 6 program helps students begin writing simple paragraphs with clear structure and appropriate language. They learn to organize ideas in sequence, use basic linking words, and apply familiar writing types such as descriptions, narratives, or emails. The goal is to develop clear and accurate expression, preparing students for the Writing section of international exams.
Listening Skills
Students are introduced to real-life listening situations such as conversations, announcements, or simple dialogues. They practice listening for the main idea, identifying specific information such as names, times, and places, gradually improving their ability to respond to natural English. This listening skill is an important component of the Checkpoint exam structure.
Speaking Skills
Although not a compulsory component of the Checkpoint exam, speaking remains essential for developing well-rounded language proficiency. Students practice basic communication on familiar topics, expressing personal opinions, describing events, and asking and answering questions. The aim is to help them communicate more confidently in an English-speaking learning environment.
Use of English (Grammar & Vocabulary)
The program focuses on consolidating essential grammar and expanding vocabulary around common themes. Students learn to use the present tense, plural nouns, personal pronouns, and linking words to support all four language skills. This is a core element that enhances accuracy and flexibility in both academic communication and exam performance.
