1. General Introduction & Learning Outcomes
Grade 4 often centers on local/state history and connects it to geography, economics, and culture. Students develop stronger “historical thinking”: timelines, cause-and-effect, change and continuity, and begin using evidence from sources.
By the end of Grade 4, students can:
-
Create a timeline of major periods and retell them in their own words.
-
Explain cause-and-effect relationships behind social/economic changes using concrete examples.
-
Read simple thematic maps (climate/resources) and make basic conclusions.
2. Knowledge Overview
-
Local/State history: events, people, turning points (based on the program scope).
-
Geography: regions and how physical conditions shape life.
-
Civics: symbols, rules, and community participation.
-
Economics: trade, resources, and migration (age-appropriate).
3. Learning & Teaching Methods
-
“Source talk”: students examine images/short texts and answer “What makes you say that?” (early evidence use).
-
Project: building a mini “museum exhibit” (artifact + label).
-
Short writing: a simple claim supported by 1–2 pieces of evidence.
