Course Description
Grade 7 ELA focuses on deepening students’ understanding of how themes, perspectives, and text structures are developed. Students advance their skills in analytical and argumentative writing, using credible evidence to support their ideas. Writing tasks include counterarguments and detailed explanations.
Instead of relying solely on group discussions, students respond to texts through individual written reflections, comparison charts, and digital learning journals. Speaking and presentation skills are developed through self-recorded video assignments, explanatory presentations, and persuasive speeches.
Language instruction emphasizes clarity, the effective use of complex sentence structures, and precise application of academic vocabulary.
Learning Content
1. Genres
In Grade 7, students continue exploring a wide range of text types, with deeper analytical requirements for both content and structure. Literary texts include modern short stories, free verse poetry, short plays, and layered-meaning narratives that develop students’ inferential thinking and literary appreciation. Informational texts cover social analyses, essays, interviews, and multi-perspective articles, enabling students to understand how authors build arguments and convey messages. Students also engage with multimedia texts—such as data charts, video transcripts, and academic blog posts—to strengthen digital reading skills, preparing them to access knowledge across other subject areas and in real-world contexts.
2. Reading Skills
Reading instruction at Grade 7 emphasizes deeper analysis of author’s perspective, relationships between ideas, and rhetorical techniques. Students learn to trace the flow of arguments, distinguish between fact, opinion, and bias in informational texts, and decode layered meanings, tone, and symbolism in literature. Comparing texts, evaluating the persuasiveness of evidence, and connecting information from multiple sources become central goals. Reading tasks foster critical thinking and equip students to engage effectively with social studies and science content in English.
3. Writing Skills
The Grade 7 writing program requires students to demonstrate logical thinking and clear organization across three primary genres: argumentative, informational, and narrative writing. In argumentative essays, students present personal viewpoints, address counterarguments, and strengthen claims with credible evidence. Informational writing tasks involve analyzing processes, concepts, or comparing two phenomena. Narrative writing moves beyond simple storytelling to include more advanced structure and emotional depth in character development. Students practice process writing—planning, drafting, and revising—and learn to respond to texts with increasingly organized and analytical paragraphs.
4. Listening & Speaking Skills
In the online learning environment, listening and speaking skills are developed through structured, purpose-driven individual presentations. Students listen to academic audio recordings to analyze information, compare viewpoints, and answer critical-thinking questions. Speaking tasks include producing video presentations about characters, events, or social topics, using a three-part speech structure and academic evidence. Students are encouraged to integrate slides, charts, and visuals to enhance clarity and persuasiveness. Instruction focuses on formal speaking, connecting ideas coherently, and selecting precise academic vocabulary—building strong scholarly communication skills.
5. Language
Language knowledge is expanded and refined to support more complex academic tasks. Grammar instruction covers the use of relative clauses, expanded noun phrases, transition words, and advanced sentence structures such as conditional sentences and reduced clauses. Editing and revision skills are emphasized to improve accuracy and flexibility in writing. Vocabulary instruction focuses on applying academic words in context, identifying nuances in meaning, and using phrases for argumentation, description, and comparison. This linguistic foundation enables students to write and speak confidently in academic settings, preparing them for more advanced reading and writing in Grade 8.

Learning Methodology
For the personalized online Grade 7 ELA program, instructional methods focus on developing intermediate-level academic proficiency through integrated skill-based tasks, multi-dimensional text analysis, and opportunities for students to demonstrate independent analytical thinking. The course incorporates argument-driven activities, fosters critical thinking, and requires students to use specific evidence in both writing and speaking. Lessons follow a progressive, knowledge-deepening sequence with clear guidance and transparent academic assessment criteria.
From the student’s perspective, learning requires the ability to monitor and manage individual progress, apply reading–writing–presentation strategies flexibly, and develop skills in self-editing and refining well-structured academic products. Students are also expected to expand their academic vocabulary and master more advanced grammatical structures to meet the demands of increasingly complex academic communication tasks.
